Dark Gingerbread

Looking for a little more spice in your life? Tall, dark, and handsome, this gingerbread is wonderfully moist and decadent. Don’t take my word for it; this is one recipe you’ll want to meet for yourself:

Dark Gingerbread

½ cup blackstrap molasses

½ cup applesauce

¼ cup water

2 cups GF flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp cinnamon

¼ tsp powdered ginger (more or less to taste)

optional add-in

Preheat oven to 350°F.

In a large mixing bowl, mix the molasses, applesauce, and water. Stir in the other ingredients until smooth. Pour into an 8×8-inch pan, then bake for about 30 minutes.

Before you know it, your kitchen will be filled with the mouth-watering aroma of baking gingerbread. Just in time for the holidays! The blackstrap molasses makes this dessert a nutritious addition to any cold, snowy day.

What could be better?

Well, okay … I admit it: I’ve been holding out on you. This dark gingerbread is everything I’ve described; but the add-in I hinted at above brings it to a whole new level. Mix a dozen diced cherries into the batter to make this dark gingerbread THE ONE.
